Emirates News Agency – Saif bin Zayed attends Majlis Mohamed bin Zayed’s speech exploring leadership in digital age

[ad_1]

ABU DHABI, 17th April, 2023 (WAM) — Lieutenant General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior, attended the latest Majlis Mohamed bin Zayed Ramadan speech, in which There was one entitled “Learning to Lead and Win the New World”.

Presented by serial entrepreneur, bestselling author and performance coach Steve Cockram, he discusses the unique challenges business leaders face in today’s digital world. Cockram identifies three key issues and explores strategies for addressing them to improve the long-term effectiveness of leaders and their teams.

The first challenge asks how leaders can maintain emotional, physical and intellectual health in a world where work never stops. Cockram compares the work schedule of the industrial age, where the workday had a clear start and end, to today’s digital age, where everyone can work from anywhere. To address this, he introduced the concept of “five gears” to help leaders and teams manage their schedules to ensure they can be productive while also devoting enough time to “recharge.”

The next challenge Cockram explores is the importance of leaders learning to lead through influence rather than their position or title. He again compared today’s work environment to that of the past, in which employees often “killed the time” and were promoted to positions that could influence the organization’s strategy. This is no longer the case, he argues, as hierarchies are being flattened and a new generation of “digital natives” are inherently better equipped to deal with the challenges of the digital age. To address this, he talks about the importance of leaders harnessing the “superpowers” of each team member and making sure each employee feels truly heard, valued, and appreciated. Kerkram explained that leaders must acknowledge that in today’s complex world, they alone don’t have all the answers. Instead, they must focus on building high-performing teams that recognize the intelligence and insight of each team member.

The third and final challenge mentioned in the lecture is how to build a culture that attracts and retains top talent. Cockram explores the idea that successful cultures are built by leaders who measure their worth not by what they individually achieve, but by how many people they get to do things they didn’t think were possible to measure. To do this, he believes, leaders must understand each member of the team, understand their motivations, and the challenges they may face. A leader’s ability to develop and empower a team is as important as their ability to do their own work, he said.

Majlis Mohamed bin Zayed’s presentation was moderated by Khaled Al Remeithi, Director of the Department of Educational Strategic Development at the Presidency, pre-recorded by Dr. Ali Al Ahbabi, Director of the UAE Center for Public Policy and Leadership; Mariët Westermann, Vice-Chancellor, NYU Abu Dhabi.

The speech, which took place at the dedicated parliamentary lecture venue at the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi, was also attended by Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence, as well as a number of ministers and officials.

The lecture will be broadcast on local television networks and on the Majlis Mohamed bin Zayed YouTube channel (youtube.com/@MajlisMohamedbinZayed) on Tuesday, April 18 at 17:30.
