Emirates News Agency – SAP partner added to achieve Abu Dhabi Industrial Strategy goals

ABU DHABI, 29th September, 2022 (WAM) — The Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development (ADDED) has launched an arrangement with SAP, a leading German multinational supplier of enterprise business software, as it implements the initiatives developed by Abu Dhabi and Targeted Dhabi Industrial Strategy (ADIS).

The agreement was signed by ADDED Chairman Mohamed Ali Al Shorafa and SAP SE CEO and Executive Board Member Christian Klein during the official visit of German Chancellor Olaf Scholz to the UAE.

The signing ceremony was witnessed by Dr. Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, Minister of State for Foreign Trade and Minister responsible for Talent Attraction and Retention, and Dr. Franziska Brantner, Parliamentary State Secretary at the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action.

Launched in June 2022, ADIS is Abu Dhabi’s charter guiding an exponential transformation of its industrial and manufacturing landscape, with Industry 4.0 at its core, circular economy models, talent development, ecosystem support, indigenous supply and value chains develop. The UAE capital, Abu Dhabi, and the rest of the emirate is rapidly reaching milestones comparable to global industrial hubs, with a Dh10 billion funding programme across six transformation programmes being rolled out to support innovators and market disruptors.

SAP will train and upskill talent and future experts by offering in-country, virtual and global programs focused on technical, business and behavioral skills. SAP intends to design a platform to support job seekers and freelancers in Abu Dhabi’s manufacturing sector to bridge the gap between supply and demand, and by including UAE nationals as part of its workforce in the Abu Dhabi government’s secondment programme.

The two parties will work closely together to develop an emirate-level framework for harmonized manufacturing standards, and will collaborate to develop and maintain efficient value chains in manufacturing.

As part of the agreement, ADDED and SAP will support start-ups and small enterprises (SMEs) in the industrial sector through the “SAP.io” and “Grow by SAP” programs.

Al Shorafa said: “Our partnership with SAP is a pillar of our strategy as we begin to adapt to changing market trends and technological updates as we begin to carefully achieve our goals as set out in the Abu Dhabi Industrial Strategy. ADIS will gradually and prudently grow to expand the UAE’s manufacturing sector to AED172 billion by 2031 by increasing access to financing, improving ease of doing business and attracting foreign direct investment.”

“Talent development is our top priority. ADIS aims to create 13,600 new knowledge-based quality jobs, with a focus on Emirati talent, and working with SAP will provide professional training and upskilling programmes for our various cadres to master the skills needed for industry 4.0 transition and best practices for the circular economy,” he added.

Christian Klein said: “SAP’s partnership with ADDED represents an important step forward in Abu Dhabi’s vision to become a leading technology and innovation hub. Our deep expertise in manufacturing will help to upskill and improve local talent. training, and expanding globally to further strengthen the best practices of the recently launched Abu Dhabi Industrial Strategy.”
