Latakia, 2nd April, 2023 (WAM) — Following the instructions of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the second UAE aid ship carrying more than 2,000 tonnes has arrived in Latakia. Taqiyah port, as part of the UAE back-up for the Syrian earthquake recovery program under Operation Valiant Rider/2.
The largest aid ship of its kind, operated by the Emirates Red Crescent (ERC), carried more than 2,215 tonnes, including 1,040 tonnes of food supplies, 600 tonnes of relief and medical aid and 573 tonnes of construction materials, the Ministry of Defense’s Joint Operations Command announced.
Dr. Hamdan Musallam Al Mazrouei, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the ERC, said the aid highlights the UAE’s efforts to alleviate the human suffering caused by the earthquakes in Syria and Turkey.
He affirmed the UAE leadership’s keenness to provide the best services to the brotherly Syrian people in overcoming this human tribulation.
“As part of ‘Operation Valiant Rider/2’, the ERC will continue to expand its humanitarian response in the best interests of those affected by the earthquake in Syria and Turkey. We are moving in different directions to alleviate the suffering caused by the disaster,” he said, noting that the ERC’s “Bridge of Good” humanitarian movement is involved in relief operations in Syria and Turkey.
He added that aid would be provided to beneficiaries in coordination with the Syrian Arab Arab Red Crescent.

Following the devastating earthquake that hit both Syria and Turkey in February, the UAE launched Operation Valiant Rider/2 to provide aid to the people of both countries.
