Emirates News Agency – UAE committed to supporting refugees worldwide: Hamdan bin Zayed

ABU DHABI, 19th June, 2023 (WAM) — H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Representative of the Ruler in the Al Dhafra region and Chairman of the Emirates Red Crescent, ERC His Excellency reiterated the UAE’s commitment to supporting refugees around the world.
Sheikh Hamdan made the remarks on the occasion of World Refugee Day, which is celebrated every year on 20 June,
“At the direction of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President, and Sheikh Mohamed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai With the support of His Highness, the UAE seeks to support refugees and find suitable solutions for their challenges,” he added.
He added that the UAE’s outstanding initiatives in support of refugees have contributed to relevant international efforts, and commended Her Excellency Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Chairman of the General Women’s Union (GWU) and Chairman of the Supreme Council for Maternity and Childhood, for advocating An initiative by the Supreme Chairman of the Family Development Foundation (FDF), the “Mother of the Nation”, who is also the Honorary Chairman of the ERC, aims to improve the conditions of refugees through the Sheikha Fatima Refugee Women’s Fund.
He further added that the Fund, established through the generous initiative of Sheikha Fatima, further strengthens her ongoing efforts to empower refugee women economically and socially, marking a major breakthrough in programs and projects aimed at supporting women from disadvantaged communities.
Sheikh Hamdan said: “The UAE will remain a protective shield for refugees, shielding them from the harsh consequences of displacement, a resilient bulwark against their escalating suffering, and a strong pillar for their human dignity, He urged the international community to step up efforts to alleviate forced displacement and fulfill its responsibility to ensure better living conditions for victims.
Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan then highlighted the UAE’s commitment to refugees, improving their resilience to emergencies, supporting voluntary repatriation programs and maintaining stability in their home regions.
He also called for more significant regional and international humanitarian efforts to improve the living conditions of refugees around the world.
