Emirates News Agency – UAE, OIE sign agreement to set up OIE office in the country

ABU DH ABI, 15th June, 2023 (WAM) — The UAE signed an agreement with the OIE on 12th June to establish the organization’s office in the UAE.

The agreement was signed by Abu Dhabi’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) in the presence of Sultan Mohammed Al Shamsi, Assistant Minister for Development and International Organizations, and Dr Monique Eloit, Director-General of OIE. Representatives of the Agriculture and Food Safety Authority and the World Organization for Animal Health.
Under the agreement, the organization’s representative office will be based in Abu Dhabi, which will be given a separate legal status to carry out its functions in the UAE.
The important agreement is in line with the UAE’s efforts to ensure food safety, protect animals from epidemics and facilitate imports into the country. The office will work with the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment and other local authorities in the country, including the Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority, to combat the epidemic, prevent its spread and improve veterinary services and food safety.
