ABU DHABI, 25th January, 2023 (WAM) — Team Emirates ADQ, the UAE’s first professional women’s cycling team, will join 20 international teams in the inaugural Women’s UAE Tour.
The inaugural UAE Women’s Tour will be held from February 9-12 and the fifth men’s UAE Tour will be held from February 20-26.
The total distance of the tour is 468 km and consists of 4 stages; Stage 1: Port Rashid – Dubai Harbor (109 km), Stage 2: Al Dhafra Fort – Al Mirfa (133 km), Stage 3: Hazza bin Zayed Stadium – Jebel Hafeet (107 km), and Stage 4: Fatima Bint Mubarak Ladies Sports Academy – Abu Dhabi Breakwater (119 km).
Team UAE’s ADQ drivers, reflecting the colors of the UAE flag, will wear the new official race jersey.
Melissa Moncada, Team Principal, UAE ADQ, said: “We are delighted to be participating in the inaugural Ladies UAE Tour next month. It is an inspiring race for a number of reasons; a first of its kind in the UAE and the region. Additionally, it is a unique opportunity for UAE women to support the women’s teams that represent our country and see them compete in World Tour standard competition in our home country.
As part of its mission, UAE Team ADQ has launched a UAE-centric platform called Women Moving Forward by UAE Team ADQ. Under this unique initiative, UAE Team ADQ trainers and experts collaborate with government, business and other stakeholders to provide professional cycling capacity building for women through a variety of specialized workshops, events and team coaching.
“As a professional team, our mission is not limited to achieving the best results in international cycling events, but also to foster a passion for cycling and sport among Emirati women. We have launched the Women Moving Forward, launched by UAE team ADQ, to Facilitating this collaborative journey. Through this platform, we provide women with innovative and professional sports tools that enable them to reach their full potential from the start of their sport,” added Moncada.
Last December, the Emirates ADQ team organized a training camp ahead of the 2023 UCI World Tour in Tuscany, Italy.
