Dubai-based airline Emirates has announced plans to launch daily flights to Toronto from April 20 following the UAE’s groundbreaking expanded air transport agreement with Canada. The popular route will offer more than 6,800 seats per week.
Emirates said it was increasing frequency, adding two weekly flights between Dubai and Toronto to meet the huge demand for passenger services.
It said the move comes at a time when the bilateral relationship between the UAE and Canada has significantly strengthened, with both countries set to reap significant economic benefits across numerous sectors and supply chains.
Welcoming the strategic agreement, Adnan Kazim, Emirates Chief Commercial Officer, said: “Commercial links between Canada and the UAE have grown significantly over the years and the expanded air services will help further foster commerce and trade.”
“The expansion of air service also confirms the UAE’s growing importance to Canada’s global connectivity, which we can support through our global network of more than 130 destinations,” he said.
Emirates operates its flagship A380 on the Dubai-Toronto route, with a capacity of 491 passengers per flight in economy, business and first class.
By adding two additional flights a week, the Dubai-based airline will provide nearly 2,000 extra seats on the busy route, representing a 40 per cent increase in capacity between its hub city of Dubai and points in Canada.
The Dubai-Toronto route is popular with customers from India, the United Arab Emirates, Bangladesh, Iran, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Sri Lanka, which are also top destinations for Toronto travelers.
“Together with the relevant authorities, our codeshare and loyalty program partner Air Canada, and our valued industry partners, we look forward to playing our part in facilitating more travel and trade opportunities between our two countries,” Kazim noted. “
He thanked all stakeholders and authorities involved in this crucial agreement, which will boost aviation and tourism in both countries.
“We have been serving customers between Toronto and Dubai since 2007, and although double-decker A380s have been operating the route since 2009, demand from leisure and business travellers, expatriates and students has consistently exceeded allocated capacity ,” Kazim said.
“This enhanced agreement represents an inflection point in our strategy to better serve our customers by providing more choice and flexibility and meeting pent-up demand across our growing network,” he added.trade arab news agency
