Emirati astronaut Sultan Al Neyadi to be first Arab to walk in space

[ad_1]

Abu Dhabi: Sultan Al Neyadi of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) will once again enter the history books on April 28 by becoming the first Arab astronaut to perform a spacewalk.

Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed, Crown Prince of Dubai, tweeted on Thursday: “Inspired by Zayed’s ambition, today our space ambassador @Astro_Alneyadi is preparing for the first spacewalk by an Arab astronaut on April 28. Making the UAE the 10th country to conduct an extravehicular activity (EVA) on a @Space_Station.”

He also shared photos of Al Neyadi inspecting the powered spacesuits used in spacewalks, and photos of astronauts performing spacewalks outside the International Space Station (ISS).

“It is a great honor and responsibility to be chosen as the first Arab astronaut to perform a spacewalk with NASA astronaut Stephen Bowen,” Al Neyadi tweeted.

“I eagerly await this historic moment, for which I have undergone extensive training at the Johnson Space Center. I am looking forward to…” he added.

Al Neyadi’s mission falls under mission number 69 of the space station, a new achievement that will place the UAE in the tenth place in the world for spacewalks outside the International Space Station.

The Mohammed bin Rashid Space Center was quoted by the Emirates News Agency (WAM) as saying that the astronauts selected for the spacewalk missions undergo a rigorous selection process based on their skills, experience and ability to adapt to the difficult space environment.

In addition to physical fitness and mental flexibility, astronauts are tested for excellence in a variety of fields including engineering, robotics and life support systems.

Spacewalks, also known as extravehicular activities (EVAs), are critical to maintaining and developing the capabilities of the International Space Station (ISS).

The mission allows astronauts to perform various tasks. Such as maintaining and repairing the basic systems of the International Space Station, installing new technology equipment, assembling and rebuilding space station modules.

The spacewalk demonstrates the importance of international cooperation aboard the ISS, where astronauts from different countries work together, exchanging knowledge and different resources.

This year’s fifth spacewalk outside the International Space Station is significant because Emirati astronaut and NASA astronaut Steven Bowen will be performing several essential tasks.

They are expected to spend approximately 6.5 hours outside the vehicle, offering the two astronauts a unique opportunity to learn more about the space environment while working on the maintenance and modernization of the International Space Station.

Al-Neyadi and team will also complete a series of preparations for installing the solar panels as they will be installed during a follow-up mission in June.

Al-Neyadi spent just over a month aboard the International Space Station (ISS) after launching with the Crew-6 crew from Cape Canaveral, Florida, on March 2, and joined the ISS after a 25-hour flight. butt.

Since the mission’s official launch, the crew of Mission 69 has been busy conducting human science research aboard the International Space Station (ISS).
