Enjoy art, live entertainment and lots of food at Artsfest on Historic Walnut Street

Historic Walnut Street will be buzzing May 6-7 as Artsfest returns to its 43rd year.

Sponsored by the Springfield Area Arts Council, the event is one of the largest outdoor arts festivals in Southwest Missouri, with tens of thousands in attendance. It features nearly 120 artists from across the country as well as live entertainment and a wide variety of food.

Artsfest runs from 10am to 5pm both days. Admission is $5, children 5 and under are free. Here’s what you can find at the festival.

Artsfest features everything from clay to woodworking, painting to photography. Artists will set up tents on Walnut Street between National Avenue and John Q. Hammons Parkway.

And bring your wallet. This is not an art show. Many artists make a living from the festival circuit, and your purchase helps them continue to create and showcase their work.

There will also be a special “Live Art” area near the intersection of Walnut and John Q. Hammons, where nine local artists will create original artwork while the public will watch their progress. Those paintings will be sold.examine Springfield Area Arts Council website to know more information.

fun for kids

The Springfield Area Arts Council ensures that Artsfest is fun for everyone. There is a special “kids area” in the southwest corner of Walnut and John Q. Hammons. Kids can tie-dye a t-shirt for free. There is also a chalk painting area where young artists can create their own artwork.

The princesses of 417 will set up booths at the event site to meet, greet and take photos with guests throughout the weekend. The princesses will also perform for the audience on May 7th at 12:45pm.

Colorful live entertainment

Artsfest features four stages of live entertainment, with performances ranging from live music to dancing.

The lineup of musicians includes a variety of local bands such as Shaun Munday, Hometown Tourist, Vic Vaughan & Souled Out, The Paper Moons and The Jin J. X Group.

The dance stage is located on the west side of the festival footprint and will feature local dance groups including Studio VIE, Petra Junior Company, Point Performing Arts, Ozark Dance Academy and Springfield Dance Alliance.

food, glorious food

Bring your appetite to Artsfest. There will be a lot of delicious food to fill your belly.

The University Plaza parking lot at the northwest corner of Walnut and John Q. Hammons will feature several food trucks and a stage for live entertainment. These trucks include:

  • city ​​utility water truck
  • Dessert
  • Lay’s Egg Roll
  • Southern Fish Fry Company
  • pineapple whip
  • Crepe Shack

Offers a wide variety of cuisine including Crosstown BBQ, Greek Belly, Peruvian and South American cuisine, Jamaican Patty Co. and Xurro Handcrafted Spanish Donuts.

If you get thirsty, there are also stands selling bottled water and Coca-Cola products, and three beer tents.
