Tahoe City Arts and Crafts Festival this weekend
From August 19-21, Friday-Sunday, 10am-5pm, the Tahoe City Arts and Crafts Festival will host more than 45 artisans and craftspeople at the Boatworks Mall showcasing their work.
Running over two weekends, the free event will provide artisans with a venue to showcase their original handicrafts and enjoy views of the lake.
The festival will take place at Boatworks Marina Green, which overlooks Lake Tahoe between the Boatworks Mall and the event sponsor, the Tahoe City Downtown Association.

Sierra Forage Dinner on Friday
Mountain Area Preservation will celebrate its 35th anniversary at the 12th Annual Sierra Forage Dinner on Friday, August 19 at 5:30 pm at the Stables in the Olympic Valley.
Dinner will include a family-style, multi-course, farm-to-table meal at Noisettes, as well as wine pairings at Illanta Wines, a live auction benefiting from maps, live music by Kurt Bickering and Sean Duerr, and a tribute to the basin for decades Cheers to environmental advocacy.
Tickets are available for $225 per person per person and $2,500 per table for up to 10 guests. Ticket purchase includes a private ten farm table and welcome champagne. Seats are limited to 150.

Alibi Ale Works Truckee Public House’s live music performance
Alibi Ale Works Truckee Public House will host an acoustic duo on Saturday, August 20th at 8:30pm.
The duo, Shannon Carroll and Hunter Merritt, used their harmonious melodies and backup musicians to create folk, rock, pop, blues and American tunes that made audiences stand Get up and swing to the beat.
This event is free, and food and beverages can be purchased during the show.
End your weekend at the Bluegrass Jam at Truckee Public House, with beers and an open stage for anyone who wants to play good music or just relax and enjoy the night. The open stage is from 6 pm to 8 pm, free.

XTERRA came to Taihao Lake
The Xterra Lake Tahoe 5k and 10k Trail Runs will be held on Sunday, August 21st in conjunction with the Xterra Lake Tahoe Triathlon. The trail run will begin and end at Penn Village’s Green Village, where the main stage is established. From the starting area, the class will lead participants north through a trail system featuring tall pines, aspen and creek intersections.
5,000 runners ran a circle, and 10,000 runners ran two times. The second lap will start with the Green Village, where there will be a fun viewing area to cheer on the participants.
Also, BBQ lunches are $15 and are not included in a 5K or 10K race.
Both races begin at 9:00am, with the Kids Race at 10:30am and registration closes at 7:59pm on Saturday, August 20. Entry prices vary by age and race type.
At 7:30am that morning, the Xterra triathlon will begin in Sand Harbor. The race will begin with a 1500-meter swim in the lake, then a bike ride across Tunnel Creek to the Flume Trail, past Marlette Lake, and a quick ride to the Tahoe Rim Trail.This will be followed by a climbing and 5k running session which will end at Village Green with awards ceremony starting around 12:30pm
The East Coast Trail will be closed at 6 am to 9 am

The brain in the Bots Lego plan in the Children’s Museum
The Children’s Zone Museum in Truckee will be offering a Brains on the Bots program for children entering grades 5 through 8 the week of Monday, August 22-26, from 1:30-4:30 pm.
The program is designed to help children turn on their brains when they go back to school. They can participate in activities including sumo and dance competitions, as well as build and program Lego robots.

Truckee Donner Land Trust Docent leads hike through Lower Carpenter Valley
The Truckee Donner Land Trust will lead a guided hike in the Lower Carpenter Valley starting Tuesday, August 23rd at 9am. Expect this hike to be 5+ miles, mostly flat terrain on somewhat rough ranch roads and will be led. Revealed. The excursion is free and speakers will be able to answer questions about the land and its inhabitants.
There are many ways to get to the rendezvous point. From downtown Truckee, take 89 north and turn left on Alder Creek Road toward Sierraville. After the intersection in Schussing, turn right onto Carpenter Valley Road and turn right. From Tahoe Donner, follow Alder Creek Road toward HWY 89 and turn left on Carpenter Valley Road past Tahoe Donner Campground.
Trailhead parking lot is located on the right side of the locked door. Be sure not to block the road or gate.

Soaring ranch neighborhood party
Summer is coming to an end and Soaring Ranch is celebrating a successful season with the Soaring Ranch Block Party on Thursday, August 25th at 5pm. The event is hosted in partnership with the Truckee Chamber of Commerce and in support of the Truckee-Tahoe Humane Society. While admission is free, a $5 donation or pet food pantry is recommended. If carrying items, it should be unopened, unexpired pet food or trash.
The event is very friendly and HSTT will be on hand to teach more about its program and how it can help the organization.
