Entertainment Briefing | ‘Smokeout’ features music, more – Times-Standard

[ad_1]

Plan to “flame off”

The Mateel Community Center will host its annual “420 Smokeout” on April 20th. The event will feature performances by renowned international roots reggae artist Junior Toots, as well as Kulcha Knox, Kurrency King and Kava Jah.

In addition to the concert, Mateel is partnering with the Southern Humboldt Chamber of Commerce and Visitor Center to present the “Traditional Farmers Showcase,” an educational event (no on-site sales) for those 21 and older. It will be an intimate lounge where people can meet with some of Humboldt County’s traditional artisan cannabis growers and hear stories about their farms and what makes their products unique. Plant Habit will set the mood with a pop-up market. Tree Nug Farms and Lonnie Whitlow BBQ will be grilling, Mateel Kitchen will be preparing special side dishes, Girl Scouts of America will be serving cookies, and the upstairs bar will be serving beer and wine.

Doors open at 4pm, so come early to mingle in the outdoor lounge, play pool or cornhole. This is an all ages event, with the exception of the “Legacy Farmers Showcase” lounge, which is a separate area for 21+ with valid ID. Tickets are generally $25, and children 12 and under are free (must be accompanied by an adult).

art and music

The Mateel Community Center will host its 46th Annual Summer Arts and Music Festival June 24-25 at its new home, County Line Ranch, just nine miles south of Garberville on US Highway 101.

This year, there will be public camping options and VIP festival passes, with limited VIP camping sold separately. Very limited dry RV camping will also be offered. There will also be a shuttle program to encourage more carpooling,

Artists performing on three stages include Ozomatli, Mike Love and Full Circle, 420 Funk Mob and many more. There’s also a kids’ area with plenty of activities to keep the young ones busy. Children 12 and under get in free when accompanied by a paying adult.

The festival will also feature approximately 100 local and regional craft vendors, local cannabis products, local beer and wine, international food vendors, and an interactive children’s area. Vendor applications are open until Monday. Apply online through the Mateel Community Center.

Tickets can be purchased online www.summerartsandmusicfestival.com. For more information, visit www.mateel.org. To volunteer at the festival, please email volunteers@mateel.org.
