Lee Roy Parnell:
Country artist Lee Roy Parnell will perform at Tomball’s Main Street Crossing on May 18th at 8pm. Tickets start at $38.

One of Parnell’s most successful hits was his 1992 single “What Kind of Fool Do You Think I Am?” His latest album is 2017’s “Midnight Believer.”

Book Club:
The Books Without Borders Book Club meets every third Thursday of the month (including May 18th at 1pm) in the Lone Star College-CyFair Library. No registration required.

Clubs come together to read and discuss fiction and non-fiction that highlight literature, culture, environment and politics from around the world. This month, Bobby O’Brien, professor of history at Lone Star College-CyFair, will host a panel on Mark Adams’ 2011 book, “Turn Right at Machu Picchu.” book discussion.

Tracy Byrd:
Country artist Tracy Byrd will perform at 2920 Roadhouse in Hockley on May 19 at 8pm. Tickets start at $35.

Dave Matthews Band:
The Dave Matthews Band will return to the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion in The Woodlands on May 19th at 7.30pm. Tickets start at $50.

The band’s local dates are also marked by the release of their new album Walk Around the Moon, their tenth studio effort. The album’s first single, “Madman’s Eyes,” addressed the issue of gun violence.

Michael Kavanaugh:
Michael Cavanaugh will perform music by Billy Joel and Elton John at The Centrum on May 20th at 8pm. Tickets start at $45.

Kavanaugh starred in the Broadway musical “Move Out,” which featured music by Billy Joel. Since 2008 he has been giving solo performances and sometimes accompanies symphonies, playing music by renowned composers such as Paul Simon, Neil Diamond and James Taylor. Presented by the Cypress Creek Arts and Community Foundation, this show is the final show of their 2022-2023 Star-Lit!! series.

Night tour:
Premier Martial Arts in Magnolia is hosting a parents’ evening for children aged 5-12 on May 20th from 6pm to 10pm. Admission is $40 for the first child and $25 for siblings.

The theme of the event is “It Takes Some Assembly,” and martial arts instructors will instruct children to play with plastic blocks, learn about teamwork, and provide snacks.

David Wilcox:
Singer-songwriter David Wilcox will perform at Dosey Doe The Big Barn in The Woodlands on May 21 at 6:30 pm. Tickets start at $22.

Not to be confused with the Canadian blues rocker of the same name, Wilcox recently self-released his music, and his songs tell stories and delves into history, philosophy and protest.

social Security:
Core Integrated Wealth is hosting a workshop on Social Security and Retirement Planning on May 22 at 6:30 p.m. in the Lone Star College-Tomball Theater Teaching Room. Free admission.

Art Workshop:
Local artist Shauna Martin hosts a photo transfer wax art workshop at the Hampton Inn & Suites in Tomball from 11 am to 2 pm. Tuition is $70 per student.

During the workshop, students will use their own black-and-white photographs and tissue papers of various colors to create beautifully layered compositions. All supplies are included in the workshop fee. Due to the heated element of the media, age restriction is 14 years and older.

Jen Harris:
Local performer Jenn Harris will perform Stevie Nicks, Sheryl Crow, Creedence Clearwater Revival and more at Deeproots Vineyards in Plantersville on May 27th at 1:30 pm. Free admission.

Bubba’s Kitchen is open, and the menu includes tacos, salads and steak and lobster bacon wraps. No smoking, but there is a butt bucket in the parking lot.

Art Camp:
The Pearl Fincher Museum of Fine Arts is hosting a two-week full-day camp in the visual and dramatic arts for children ages 5-12 from May 30 to June 9, from 9 am to 4 pm. Tuition is $235 per week for museum members and $250 per week for non-members.

Pearl will partner with Troupe d’Jour on a summer arts camp exploring visual storytelling, performance arts and theater techniques. At the end of the camp, students will take the stage to perform for family and friends.

YMCA Camp:
The Woodlands YMCA – Branch Crossing and D. Bradley McWilliams YMCA summer camps at Cypress Creek will begin May 30th for children ages 5-15 from 7am to 6pm Session 1 (Four days) membership costs vary but are approximately $240.

D. Bradley McWilliams offers Outdoor Adventure Day Camps and Branch Crossing offers Youth Discovery Day Camps. Activities include creative and performing arts, STEM activities, field trips, hiking and canoeing, water safety skills, meditation and mindfulness, and range sports.
