The Elkhart County Parks Department is hosting a project on summer constellations. Participants will enjoy snacks, homemade star maps, and helpful tops on how to find the constellations and the Greek and Roman mythology that surrounds them.

Ruthmere will host two screenings of “Seven Generations of Rivers,” a documentary discussing the Potawatomi Indian Pokagon Band and their efforts in cultural preservation and environmental restoration. The event is part of the One State/One Story: A World of Wonders program designed by the Indiana Humanities in collaboration with the Indiana State Library and the Indiana Book Center.
Seating is very limited for the 2 p.m. screening, but ADA wheelchair access is available. It will be held at Havilah Beardsley House. There will be 30 seats available for the 5pm screening at the Ruthmere Game Room, but those interested should call to reserve a seat.

In the early ’80s, few new wave groups were as popular as Culture Club. During that time, the group achieved seven consecutive top 10 hits in the UK and six top 10 singles in the US with its brisk, infectious pop soul. While their music was ready for the broadcast, it was the band’s charismatic, cross-dressing frontman Boy George who made the band its star. George made a splash on early MTV in a gorgeous dress and heavy makeup for a relaxed androgynous look. George was also quick-witted, often coming up with snarky one-liners, which earned him a lot of media exposure in culture clubs in both the US and the UK.
The Culture Club reunited for a tour in 2014, and the band also began working on a new album with producer Youth. The band planned to release an album called Tribes in 2015, but that record never materialized. Instead, the recordings set the stage for Life, a 2018 album that marks Culture Club’s first new album in nearly 20 years.
