Residents of Winfield had a variety of entertainment options to choose from this past weekend.
A small group of Lions participated in the play “Clue” at the Washington Community Theater on Friday night.
The show is based on the board game “Clue”, in which all the characters live in “Body Manor”, where dead bodies keep appearing in various rooms. Who did it and why follows the board game theme.
A terrific cast of characters play out in an unusual setting that includes rooms that unfold like drawers in a dresser. The combination of scenes, characters and themes makes for a great night of entertainment.
WMU Schools hosted the touring theater “Prairie Fire.”
On Friday nights and Saturday afternoons, parents, family and friends and relatives packed the small gymnasium to watch a large group of students perform “Peter Pan,” an adaptation of the familiar story.
Isabel Cann as Peter Pan, Isla Cann as Wendy, Carver McMullen as Michael, Elena Allen as Nana, Matilda Anderson as Tinker Bell, Abby M. Le played the crocodile.
Directors Chelsie Burks and Colin Anderson play the Darlings.
The supporting cast is a large group of very enthusiastic high school and elementary school students.
Baseball players, lost kids and villainous pirates round out the cast.
Prairie Fire has been on the WMU campus for several years. They travel all over the Midwest from school to school for a week, with a different play (fairy tale) every year.
Actors are selected on Mondays, rehearsals take place after school Monday through Thursday, and the play is staged on Fridays and Saturdays.
Rehearsals were cut short this year by one night due to inclement weather.
The directors were impressed with how the students put the script together with so little practice.
On Saturday night, if the show isn’t on your schedule, there’s a movie screening that’s open to the public at the Open Bible One-80 building. Popcorn and camaraderie filled the building as people enjoyed an evening of family fun provided by WAGG. group.
