The music and entertainment world mourned the dynamic singer/dancer/actress Tina Turner, the undisputed queen of rock and roll, who died in Switzerland on Wednesday after a long illness at the age of 83.

According to a statement from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, “Two-time inductee Tina Turner has worked hard to reimagine the role of black women in rock and roll—a role firmly front and center.” During the Tina Turner duo (inducted in 1991), her electronic sound on stage forever raised the standard of live performances.

“Tina will be energized during her performances and is a true entertainer,” Johnson said. “She created the blueprint for other great entertainers like Janet Jackson and Beyoncé, and her legacy will continue through all energetic performing artists. Cookie and I are in our prayers for her husband and all of her friends and family.”
