GCC-based luxury eco-resort brand Envi Lodges has announced its debut in Costa Rica, a global pioneer in sustainable tourism.
The hospitality company has partnered with The Islita Developments to operate Envi The Islita, a unique eco-tourism project in Punta Islita, a secluded cove destination on Costa Rica’s Nicoya Peninsula.
As Costa Rica sets its sights on becoming the world’s first carbon-neutral country, the destination is in line with Envi’s commitment to responsible tourism at the locations where it operates ecolodges.
In November, the Costa Rica Tourism Board became a member of the Global Sustainable Tourism Council, which sets global sustainability standards and helps destinations adopt sustainable practices in tourism. About 500,000 species live in Costa Rica, about 5% of all species on Earth. This relatively high percentage is a testament to the extraordinary biodiversity of such a small country.
“We couldn’t have picked a better location to plant the first Envi flag outside of our hometown. We’re excited to create a unique traveler experience in this heavenly setting while adhering to our high standards of sustainability standards, which are perfectly aligned with Costa Rica’s ambitions for a game-changing responsible tourism industry,” said Envi co-founder Noelle Homsy.
“We would like to thank Islita Developments for entrusting us with their world-class project and giving Envi Lodges the opportunity to showcase their unique model of sustainable accommodation in one of the most inspiring eco-lodge destinations in the world.”
Envi The Islita will comprise 31 guest units made of canvas and wood, and 26 low-impact villas that will be sold to individual owners and put back into a rental pool managed by Envi Lodges as part of the eco-lodge inventory .
Facilities will include bush lounges immersed in nature where guests can gather to relax, mingle, enjoy the pool and communal dining experience. Local chefs, farmers and makers will connect with guests and celebrate the peninsula’s cuisine, culture and natural environment.
The focal point of the project will be a centrally located community centre, an education, training and business incubator designed to empower small businesses, create jobs for artisans and foster cultural exchange through local collaborations. Affiliated foundations supporting local schools and communities will serve as avenues for Islita residents and guests to meaningfully engage with the local community through cultural, artistic, environmental and educational programs.
Envi The Islita will also house a holistic wellness center conceptualized by Meraki Wellness Consultants, bringing together a group of experts specializing in alternative therapies, meditation practices and regenerative health. Other amenities will include mountain bike trails, natural springs, a ropes course, a surf skate park and pickleball to appeal to guests of all ages.
Punta Islita is a gem of a gem with a pleasant year-round climate and mild temperatures. It is the gateway to authentic Costa Rican culture, with a rich natural heritage and protected ecosystems. The architecture of the project was created by APD Arquitectos with particular attention to minimal impact on the environment, using carefully selected raw materials that blend in with the natural surroundings. This philosophy is also reflected in the Wabi Sabi-inspired interiors designed by the Islita design and development team.
“We are honored to have this partnership with Envi Lodges as the operator of Islita,” said Anatoly Mezhov, Managing Director of The Islita. “The alignment of ethos and vision for sustainable tourism – shaping the future of tourism, protecting our natural resources, regional economic development and fostering multicultural community connections – made partnering with Envi Lodges a no-brainer for us .”
“We are grateful for the embrace of Islita’s vision by the local community and by our partners, investors and collaborators who are respected and established in their respective fields of architecture, engineering, elite sport, performance, design, health, sustainability and entrepreneurship “- trade arab news agency
