Etihad Airways expands express self-service bag drop facility as travel demand surges

Etihad Airways is expanding its express self-service bag drop facility at Abu Dhabi International Airport as travelers begin flying for the summer holidays. The service offers a faster check-in experience and accommodates more guests who can then skip the line.

After online check-in, the self-service facility allows travelers to seamlessly retrieve reservations, print luggage tags and process luggage in less than two minutes.

John Wright, Vice President, Airports and Cargo Operations Network, Etihad Airwayssaid: “With many travel restrictions lifted, Etihad expects passenger numbers to soar over the summer. To allow our guests to enjoy a seamless airport experience, Etihad is offering more at Abu Dhabi International Airport. Self-service options where they can skip longer queues by first checking in online and going through the very popular flight verification process.”

Coronavirus-related travel restrictions have been completely lifted for travelers to Austria, Bahrain, Belgium, Egypt, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Kuwait, Oman, Switzerland, Turkey and the United Kingdom.

The airline is preparing to welcome a large number of passengers at Abu Dhabi International Airport from June 30 to July 15, 2022, and travelers are advised to follow the tips below.

Etihad Airways travel tips

  • Get flight verification and check in online: For destinations with travel restrictions, travelers should visit Manage My Booking on etihad.com to upload their Covid travel documents. Approvals will be shared via email, giving passengers confidence that all required documents are in place. Approved passengers can check in online and obtain a boarding pass, then use the airport’s fast-track ‘Verified Flight’ desk or self-service facility.
  • Early check-in to Skypark: From June 30 to July 31, guests can check in at the Skypark building from 24 hours to 4 hours before flight departure. They will receive 2 hours of free Skypark parking and 2500 free Etihad miles or an extra 5kg of luggage. The facility is open from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm.
  • Arrive at the airport early: Passengers should check in online and arrive early to complete airport procedures. During peak hours, check-in begins 4 hours before departure for non-US flights and ends 2 hours before departure for US flights. Check-in for all Etihad Airways flights closes 20 minutes before departure.
  • Use Home Check-In: For an even more convenient travel option, guests can also check in for their Etihad flight from the comfort of their own home by visiting etihad.com/homecheckin 7 hours before departure. This means passengers can check their bags, choose their seats and receive boarding passes and luggage tags from their home in Abu Dhabi. Upon arriving at Abu Dhabi International Airport, all non-transit passengers who have used the door-to-door check-in service can skip the line and free luggage, making the airport journey smooth and seamless. Baggage needs to be claimed at the destination baggage carousel.
  • Check flight times and departure terminals: Etihad Airways will reschedule the check-in of Economy Class passengers on selected flights in light of the significant increase in passenger numbers. Please check the latest information com or Etihad to apply.
