Etihad Airways, the national airline of the United Arab Emirates (Etihad Airways), yesterday (June 18) launched a year-round service from its operations center Abu Dhabi to Lisbon, Portugal, three times a week – on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Sunday.
The Abu Dhabi-Lisbon route will be served by a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, which offers 28 business class seats and 262 economy class seats, an entertainment system, in-seat power and onboard Wi-Fi connectivity.
The inaugural flight, EY63, took off from Abu Dhabi Airport in the presence of Fernando d’Orey de Brito e Cunha Figueirinhas, Portuguese Ambassador to the UAE, and Chris Hedlin, Etihad Airways’ Vice President Network Planning.
To celebrate the inaugural flight, guests on board were given a special menu, including the traditional Portuguese delicacy egg tart.
All guests received gifts including luxury chocolates from Emirati brand Mirzam in Business Class and a unique commemorative luggage tag for Economy Class guests.
The pilot celebrated the occasion by waving UAE and Portuguese flags in the cockpit during the maiden touchdown in Lisbon on Sunday.
Lisbon, the second oldest capital city in Europe, offers visitors a rich history, picturesque beaches, breathtaking architecture and a vibrant nightlife.

Originally declared a seasonal route due to strong travel demand, Etihad Airways has extended the service into winter, making it a year-round operation.
Lisbon was recently named “Leading Urban Break Destination” and “Leading Beachside Metropolitan Destination” in the European edition of the World Travel Awards 2022, proving its appeal to holidaymakers.
The maiden flight to Lisbon coincides with the launch of Etihad Airways’ summer flights to the Greek island of Mykonos and Malaga on June 16 and June 18.
