Etihad Credit Insurance (ECI) cooperated with the World Angel Investment Forum (WBAF) to host the World Angel Investment Week (WBAW) on October 23, 2021 at the Dubai Exhibition Center, Expo 2020 Dubai.
As an affiliated partner of the G20 Global Inclusive Finance Partnership, WBAF coordinated the World Business Angel Investment Week, which will be held from October 18th to 24th, 2021, with 72 countries participating.
This hybrid event provides an open platform for connecting, learning, sharing, demonstrating inventions and innovations, and exchanging expertise in promoting entrepreneurship and angel investment ecosystems.
As the keynote speaker, Dr. Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, Minister of State for Foreign Trade, shared his insights on how the UAE supports investors and entrepreneurs.
“Today, it is indisputable that the UAE is one of the most suitable countries for investment. Small and medium-sized enterprises account for 95% of the total number of companies. From the number of companies that receive funds to the capital invested in start-ups, the UAE’s share in the Middle East and North Africa Leading position in the startup environment. This is the result of the government and the private sector working together to educate investors and entrepreneurs about the importance of startups, provide various platforms to connect them, and form a network of angels and startups, where Passion is transformed into reality,” Al Zeyoudi said.
Massimo Falcioni, CEO of Federal Corporation Etihad Credit Insurance Company, represented the WBAF nation as the UAE High Commissioner, at the world’s largest angel investment forum grand conference and delivered a keynote speech at the opening ceremony.
When talking about the diplomatic actions of entrepreneurs, Falcioni said: “The world is recovering from the effects of a long-term pandemic in human history and needs new commercial diplomacy. Everything is changing, and better ways to meet it are needed. Changing needs are at the core of successful diplomatic action. Incorporating the principles of sustainability, mobility, and opportunity into diplomacy is essential for the present and the future.
“As the UAE Federal Export Credit Corporation, ECI redefines diplomacy and encourages entrepreneurship by helping to achieve the goals adopted in the UAE’s National Non-oil Export Development Agenda. We implement strategies to shape the UAE’s economy in accordance with the vision of the UAE’s wise leadership over the next 50 years. “
Ministries, dignitaries, C-level executives and investors from Expo 2020 Dubai attended the event in person. It also includes the entire WBAF community from more than 127 countries, including 685 representatives, 16 high commissioners, 4 senior senators, 266 senators, 357 international partners, and 44 faculty and staff.
The UAE’s accession to WBAF provides a wide range of opportunities for UAE companies and paves the way for outstanding economic growth.
“Business Diplomacy for International Entrepreneurship” is the theme of this year’s event. Expert speakers and panel members from different fields inspire current and future world leaders to take risks on new ideas, collaborate across departments, and change the world economy through scale-up , Angel investment, inclusive finance and innovation.
Facts have proved that the UAE’s World Business Angel Investor Week is an excellent platform to find solutions to the key issues of early equity, capital markets and other global concerns of the United Nations, the European Union and G20 countries, as well as regional and local economies.
