Etihad Rail Passenger Service Expands Travel Options Across the UAE
One month after its historic launch, the Etihad Rail passenger service is already changing how people travel across the UAE. The country’s first national passenger train began operating on June 30.
Linking Abu Dhabi and Fujairah in just 1 hour and 45 minutes, offering a faster alternative to driving. More than 10,000 tickets were sold before the first train departed, showing strong demand from travellers.
Passengers can currently travel between Mohamed Bin Zayed City Station in Abu Dhabi and Fujairah Station. Introductory fares start from Dh55, with trains offering comfortable seating, onboard Wi-Fi, charging points and dedicated luggage space for commuters and tourists alike.
The current route marks the first phase of the UAE’s national passenger rail network. According to Etihad Rail, Dubai Station and Al Dhaid Station are expected to open on September 30, 2026, while stations in the Al Dhafra Region are planned for December 30.
Additional stations, including Sharjah, are expected to join the network during 2027 as the rollout continues. The expansion is expected to make travelling between emirates faster, easier and more sustainable.
By reducing road congestion and offering a reliable public transport option, the Etihad Rail passenger service is set to play a major role in the UAE‘s future transport network.
As more stations open in the coming months, residents and visitors will have even more ways to travel comfortably across the country.
