The Singapore Pavilion displays green buildings to convey the message that urban development must be integrated into nature.
It has more than 170 kinds of plants in different levels of greening in each space of the exhibition hall. From sky gardens to vertical walls featuring different varieties of plants, the pavilion is a verdant paradise.
In order to achieve a lush, multi-layered landscape in the Singapore Pavilion, since 2019, various plants have been procured from the Dubai Nursery for pre-planting.
Ambassador Waswani said that Singapore will tell the story of its growth as a sustainable, resilient and livable city. He drew an analogy between the UAE and Singapore and said: “We are all forward-looking countries. We look at the world and look for opportunities. We are also a hub. Like the UAE, Singapore has no natural resources. We have 90% of our food. They are all imported. Our pavilion with the theme of’nature, nurturing the future’ will show how a very small country can grow, develop and create good livelihoods while being sustainable.”
Robots watering plants in Singapore Pavilion
The exhibition hall will deploy three climbing robots to water the plants in the vertical garden. These robots are approximately 70 cm in diameter and weigh 40 kg each, and will pass through the vertical green wall of the theme cone of the exhibition hall. The robot is equipped with cameras and sensors to monitor the health of plants and measure the temperature, humidity, carbon dioxide and oxygen in the exhibition hall. Each robot is equipped with cameras and sensors, and is trained through machine learning to assess the health of individual plants. As they move along the green wall, the robot can identify poorly-healthy plants that need to be replaced, and capture data to calibrate the irrigation and growth light settings to help the plants thrive.
These dome-shaped robots are the result of a collaboration with Singaporean robotics startup Oceania Robotics. They are one of the first robots in the world to be used for landscape maintenance on curved vertical green walls. These prototypes propose a new solution, which is especially suitable for Singapore. Singapore’s urban greening policy encourages owners to inject more greenery into the building.
