Fairmont Bab Al Bahr Goes Zero Single-Use Plastic

[ad_1]

Abu Dhabi luxury hotel Fairmont Bab Al Bahr is completing a pledge to replace or remove all plastic, from toiletries to water bottles, with its air-based water bottling plant due to open this month.

Fairmont Bab Al Bahr’s water bottling plant, the first of its kind in the UAE, will use advanced technology to produce water from the air. This air-to-water process utilizes the Atmospheric Water Generator, an innovative solution developed by Eshara Water.

Once produced, the water is filtered and mineralized before being packed into reusable airtight glass bottles. Serving a total of 367 luxury guest rooms, suites and villas, as well as all of the hotel’s restaurants, the plant will produce a total of 4,000 liters of water per day.

“The hospitality industry has long been committed to sustainability and we are proud to lead those efforts with this innovation,” said Elias Chakhtoura, General Manager of Fairmont Bab Al Bahr. “We are committed to promoting sustainable practices and reducing our environmental footprint , this technology will enable our guests to experience a pleasant and responsible stay.”

By achieving zero single-use plastic, Fairmont Bab Al Bahr completes its existing initiatives to reduce carbon emissions, water and energy use, waste and more, including:

• Used cooking oil is collected and provided to authorized recycling services for conversion into biodiesel (approximately 10,000 liters produced per year).
• Flow regulators and faucet aerators installed at all faucets to control water usage and reduce water usage in rooms and common areas by 20%.
• Over 34 ingredients sourced locally in the UAE and fish sourced responsibly (MSC or ACS certified).
• In all hotel facilities, food waste and recyclables are segregated from general waste, while hazardous waste such as chemical containers, batteries, light bulbs, tubes and electronic waste are sorted and then removed and disposed of by approved service providers. – trade arab news agency
