Farnek appoints new head of sustainability

Farnek, a leading smart and green facility management (FM) company based in the UAE, has appointed Muna AlNahdi as its new Head of Consulting and Sustainability to guide its green strategy and net zero programme.

With over 14 years of experience in the UAE, AlNahdi will lead an award-winning team of energy efficiency engineers, auditors and sustainability consultants who are currently working across a variety of industries in the UAE, including hotels and hospitality, retail, commercial offices and residential property.

Markus Oberlin, CEO of Farnek, said: “Muna has a strong technical background and has successfully delivered various sustainable solutions, especially energy-efficient retrofit projects.

“Her commercial experience will also be invaluable. An integral part of her role will be to present the benefits of our innovative technology solutions that support building managers and building owners to improve operational efficiency and cost-effectiveness, thereby reducing carbon emissions .

“Muna will also guide our own net zero plan. We have defined the scope and boundaries to accurately measure our carbon footprint and set emissions targets. By 2026, we aim to reduce consumption by 30% and reduce emissions in these categories by 50% by 2031.”

Prior to his appointment, AlNahdi held technical roles at the Dubai Carbon Center of Excellence, Al Futtaim Technologies and Quantum Eurostar. Most recently, she led the energy management division of South Energy, an organization designed to act as a key driver of sustainable development, with a key mission to provide a full range of energy-related services to Dubai South and its customers.

During her tenure, AlNahdi managed to achieve a 25% reduction in energy consumption and emissions over a three-year period by retrofitting buildings, street lights and district cooling plants.

AlNahdi said: “Farnek has an unrivaled reputation in the FM market when it comes to sustainability, which is one of the reasons I was so eager to join their consulting team.

“I have been impressed by the variety of innovative digital solutions they have developed in-house through sister company HITEK to measure, monitor, record and benchmark the energy performance of buildings, as well as calculate carbon emissions, which is the ultimate critical to slowing climate warming.”

AlNahdi holds a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering and a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Renewable Energy and Sustainable Development. She is a Certified Energy Manager (CEM), a Certified Measurement and Verification Professional (CMVP), and a LEED Green Engineer. As a student in 2015, AlNahdi received the prestigious Dr. Sadek Owainati Special Student Award from Rochester Institute of Technology, UAE. — trade arab news agency
