Fate of Florida Office of Filmed Entertainment In Debate – WFTV

State lawmakers are questioning the fate of an office designed to support Florida’s entertainment industry as the House of Representatives moves to eliminate the state’s business recruiting agency and a host of economic development programs.

The House Commerce Committee voted 16-3 Friday to approve House Speaker Paul Renner’s priority (HB 5) to close the doors of business recruiting agency Enterprise Florida. Several lawmakers expressed concern that the Office of Films and Entertainment, which serves Florida’s entertainment industry, would be included in the list of programs and incentives that would be repealed.

Rep. Alison Tanter (D-Tallahassee) said the abolition of the office could affect FSU’s School of Cinematic Arts.
