Royal Patricia of Scotland delivered her first lesson at Queen Elizabeth’s funeral on Monday (19/09/22).

The Secretary General of the Commonwealth had the privilege of addressing guests at Westminster Abbey, where he read a passage from the Bible, 1 Corinthians 15, emphasising the importance of the resurrection in the Christian faith and saying that death will be The enemy finally defeated. Christ.

She read: “Now Christ has risen from the dead as the firstfruits of those who slept. For since death is of man, so is the resurrection of the dead. For in Adam all were dead, In Christ will also be resurrected.

“But each in his own order: Christ was the firstfruits; then Christ came. Then the last day, when he gave the kingdom to God, which is the Father; when he laid down all dominion and all authority and power . for he must rule until he has put all his enemies at his feet. The last enemy to be wiped out is death.

“For this corrupt man must be clothed with immortality, and this mortal must be clothed with immortality.

“So when this corrupt man is clothed with immortality, and this mortal one is clothed with immortality, the sentence is fulfilled, and death is swallowed up by victory. O death, where is your thorn? O grave, yours Where is the victory? The sting of death is sin; the power of sin is the law.

“But thank God that we have the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. So, my beloved brethren, be steadfast and always do more of the Lord’s work, knowing that your labors are not in vain in the Lord.”

Following her speech, the choir then sang a psalm composed exclusively for the service by the Queen’s maestro Judith Weir.

Its words are: “Like a stag longs for a brook: God, my soul longs for you so much. My soul longs for God, yes, even for eternal God: when shall I appear before God?

“My tears have been my flesh day and night: when they say to me every day, where is your God now?

“Now when I think of this, I pour out my heart to myself: for I went with the multitude, and brought them into the house of God;

“In the voices of praise and thanks: among those who keep holy days. My soul, why are you so heavy: why are you so restless in my heart?

“Trust God: Because I will thank him for his help.”
