The new shop, called Carpool Studio, is currently working on games-as-a-service projects based on new intellectual property. Industry veterans François Alaux, Olivier Blin and Thomas Paincon will lead the nascent studio.
All three have worked at Ubisoft, with Alaux previously serving as creative director at Ubisoft Reflections and, before that, working as a senior creative partner at the French publisher.
Meanwhile, Brin spent nearly four years as world director, narrative director and content director Beyond Good and Evil 2 At Ubisoft Montpellier. Before starting the project, he worked as a creative content manager at Ubisoft’s editorial headquarters and as a senior international brand manager at Ubisoft Paris.
Finally, Paincon spent over ten years at Ubisoft in various roles, including five years as Director of Operations at Ubisoft Reflections.
Focus said the launch of Carpool Studio was part of a growth plan that also established a new film and TV production company, Focus Production.
According to the company, Focus Production seeks to “offer a new service that leverages game IP from internal and external studios by partnering with premium production houses that will also produce indie projects.”
