  • On average, a 4- to 5-star hotel in the UAE saves AED 373,000 in energy and AED 125,000 in water bills annually
  • Total savings on average hotel room rates in Dubai in 2021 using STR data is equivalent to 835 room nights

Dubai, United Arab Emirates: UAE-based leading smart and green FM company buttocks, Find out that 4- and 5-star hotels in the UAE can save up to 10% annually on utility bills. This equates to more than 835 room nights, according to STR data on average daily hotel rates in Dubai (AED 594) in 2021.

The analysis by Farnek’s in-house team of sustainability consultants used data from its hotel clients as well as the EGBC Hotel Benchmarking Study. The team found that the hotels could save on average Dh373,000 and Dh125,000 in energy and water consumption, as well as additional waste disposal costs.

“Four- and five-star hotels in the UAE spend an average of Dh4.98 million per year on utility bills. By measuring, analysing and measuring their performance, hotels have the potential to cut utility bills by up to 10% or Dh498,000. Of course , these are just average numbers and are related to the size of the hotel. Larger five-star resorts will save more money than boutique city hotels,” said Nadia Ibrahim, Associate Director of Consulting and Sustainability at Farnek.

To help address this, Farnek, through its innovative FM solutions company HITEK, has launched a new and upgraded version of its state-of-the-art online remote monitoring tool “Hotel Optimizer”, which has been helping the hotel industry in the Middle East, Africa, Asia and Europe.

Digital solutions support the operational efficiency of hotels by monitoring, analyzing and benchmarking energy and water consumption and waste generation to identify potential savings.

Javeria Aijaz said: “The tool’s main upgrade is its ‘true performance’ indicator, a unique algorithm that reflects a hotel’s actual energy and water consumption after analyzing all variables that affect hotel consumption and its associated costs .” , Managing Director, HITEK.

There are multiple variables to consider that can affect a hotel’s indoor environmental metrics, such as occupancy rates, guest nights, number of rooms, food and beverage coverage, laundry, guest profiles, staffing levels, traffic, air-conditioned areas and even general weather conditions.

In addition, the tool can use the Energy Utilization Index EUI (kWh/m2/year), Water Utilization Index WUI (liters/guest night), waste generation (kg/guest night) and waste transfer, highlighting specific operating costs.

In addition, hotel owners and operators will receive regular reports on environmental performance, as well as specific recommendations for improvement from Farnek’s team of energy, waste and carbon consultants.
