Karachi: Four relief supplies from the UAE and Qatar arrived on Saturday to help flood victims in Pakistan.
Airplanes carrying relief supplies arrived at Jinnah International Airport in Karachi from Doha and the UAE, which also provided field hospitals to deal with water-borne diseases among the victims.
Prime Minister Sheikh Baz Sharif welcomed relief supplies from friendly Muslim countries. Pakistan is receiving relief supplies globally, especially from Qatar, UAE, Turkey and Saudi Arabia. The President of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, has pledged his full support to those affected by the floods in Pakistan.
Authorities in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have contacted the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Gen. Qamar Javed Bajwa and have pledged 20 aircraft to deliver relief supplies to flood victims.
China has also been a staunch partner in supporting Pakistan during the worst-hit floods, with two Chinese planes recently arriving in Karachi with relief supplies.
Two planes loaded with relief supplies arrived at the Jinnah International Airport in Karachi on Wednesday, according to a statement issued by a spokesman for the Civil Aviation Authority. The planes carried relief items such as blankets, tents and food, they added.
China will send more planes full of relief supplies in the coming days, the statement said. So far, China has sent four planes to deliver relief supplies, they added.
The items were received by Pakistani Army and Foreign Ministry officials, the statement added.
China has announced 100 million yuan in financial aid to Pakistan, which has been affected by flash floods that have displaced thousands of people since mid-June.
