There is no single explanation for these rising prices. But for the most part, companies are now realizing that digital entertainment may never be as popular and profitable as they hoped.
Their loss of confidence translates into fewer digital entertainment options and higher prices.
The good news is that you can still satisfy the holes of your eyes and ears with amazing free or cheap (almost) entertainment. Let me introduce: Cheapskate’s Guide to Digital Entertainment.
I love JustWatch.com Save me time and money.
Search for a specific show or movie, and JustWatch lists where you can stream or download it and how much each viewing option costs. You can filter the search results to only show you free streaming services.
When a friend raved about British TV series ‘Detective’ recently – yes, it’s awesome – JustWatch point me out Saw it on several free streaming services I’d never heard of, including clump. There are ads, but I don’t care.
to watch recent dungeons and dragons movies, I can subscribe to the Paramount Plus streaming service for $9.99 a month with no ads. or, JustWatch tell me I can rent digital copies for a one-time fee of $5.99 from a number of places, including apple, amazon, youtube or Microsoft. (Amazon founder Jeff Bezos owns The Washington Post.)
You won’t find an inexpensive way to watch the latest hit Hulu series or Netflix movie. You need a subscription to Hulu or Netflix. (I won’t mention the bootleg viewing option.) Note that JustWatch can sometimes provide misinformation.
But in most cases, JustWatch is a delightful streaming companion.
If you really want to see “Beef” or some other popular streaming show on Netflix, you can always sign up for a free trial and cancel before you’re charged. (See A Small Victory below for a hint.)

I keep browser bookmarks of shows I want to watch on Hulu, Netflix, Max, Amazon Prime, and other services so I know what to watch when it’s my turn.

My workout playlist is constantly interrupted by ads, which is annoying. But it’s free.
chris richardsa pop music critic for The Washington Post, told me that his most-used digital service is YouTube — “not their music service, just plain old YouTube, and it has an incredible amount of music. Concerts, user uploads songs, etc.”
(For the uncool among us, “loosies” are usually unpolished recordings of songs that aren’t part of an official album release.)
Chris also recommends screening Free Music Archive.org and online radio stations New Taiwan dollar.

i wrote about Cons of Buying a Digital Subscription In a smartphone app or on Amazon’s storefront for digital video channels like Fire TV.
But a big advantage is that you can see All your paid digital subscriptions in one place and quit the ones you don’t want. This includes free trials that you forgot were about to end.
If you purchased digital subscriptions in the Apple or Android app or the Amazon storefront, here’s how to review what you’ve paid and cancel those subscriptions.
On iPhone or iPad: Go to the Settings app and tap your profile name at the top.
Click Subscribe. If you have any active subscriptions purchased in the app, you can tap on each subscription to see when it renews, and you can select Cancel Subscription at the bottom.
Also make sure the Renewal Receipts option is turned on (you’ll see green). You will receive email reminders about your subscription.
on an android device, instructions vary by device, but try: Go to the Play Store app. Tap the box with three lines in the corner or your profile picture in the upper right corner.
Tap “Payments & Subscriptions” → “Subscriptions” to view your Google Account payments. If you click on each subscription, you will see a cancel button.
On the Amazon website: Click the “Accounts & Lists” menu at the top (to the right of the search box), click “Memberships and Subscriptions.”
Likewise, you’ll see a list of subscriptions to streaming video services you’ve purchased through Amazon, such as BET Plus or Starz. You can click Cancel.
(Note that you cannot buy all digital subscriptions from the app or from Amazon. Netflix does not allow you to buy subscriptions from its smartphone app or from Amazon. You also cannot buy Spotify subscriptions from its Apple app. You have to go to Netflix.com or Spotify.com.)
