Holy Land…Oval Sculpture (No. 2) by Barbara Hepworth. Photograph: Mark Heathcote/Tate Photography

Barbara Hepworth
Tate St Ives, until 1 May
The landscape of St Ives inspired Hepworth, and his studio is preserved here. Her abstract and natural forms, seemingly pierced by slow erosion, echo quietly like haunted sea caves. This museum is the perfect place to learn about the life and art of one of Britain’s most revered sculptors.

and flavin
Zwirner Gallery, London, 12 January – 18 February
The artist who reveals the beauty of fluorescence brings a little color and magic to January. Today, artists use technology as easily as they use paint, but the electrification of art was something entirely new when Flavin started arranging lights into sculptures. The simplicity of his art makes it enduring.

Elene Bullock
yorkshire Sculpture Park near Wakefield, through January 29
The landscape of Yorkshire Sculpture Park is a living sculpture in itself, with delightful pastoral vistas ranging from woodlands to rolling pastures to hills. It’s the perfect place for a winter walk and has inspired Niblock to create new pieces here. She tries to respond digitally to the land.

Marcus Harvey
Wellington Arch, London, 11 January – 19 March
History can be remembered in many ways. Wellington Arch commemorates the victors of Waterloo on a grand scale. Harvey became notorious in the 1990s for his intimidating portrayal of an obscure character, Myra Hindley. Here, he used ceramics to depict other historical heroes and villains, including Thatcher and Napoleon. Jonathan Jones
