December 17 (United Press International) — German police said on Saturday they had recovered 31 items stolen from the famous Green Vault of Dresden Castle Museum in a daring heist staged three years ago.
Saxony police have recovered dozens of items in Berlin representing a “significant portion” of the stolen loot after negotiations with lawyers representing six suspects charged with theft in 2019 said the statement.
stolen items, including diamond-encrusted items, with an estimated value of $120 million. They are part of a collection created in 1793 by Augustus the Strong, ruler of Saxony.
“Precious works of art from the Green Vault are part of our national cultural heritage,” Saxony State Chancellor Michael Kretschmer said in a statement twitter post“It is only through the determined and professional work of the police and prosecutors that the perpetrators can be identified, arrested and the case solved.”
The 2019 robbery involved several masked men breaking into the museum after turning off circuit breakers. The robbers then smashed a display case and used fishing line to retrieve the jewels before fleeing the scene in an Audi, which was later found ablaze in an underground car park.

Some items, including the highly regarded Dresden White Diamond, remain missing. The recovered items will be checked by experts from the Dresden State Art Collection to confirm their authenticity.
Six men accused of taking part in the robbery went on trial in Dresden in January.
