[ad_1]

Oxford Saïd Business School and Burjeel Holdings have launched a global competition inviting high school students and teachers from around the world to come up with ideas and solutions to combat climate change.

The Burjeel Holdings Oxford Said Climate Change Challenge will host an awards ceremony for the 10 finalists, comprising 5 student teams and 5 individual teacher teams, during COP28 in Dubai later this December.

They will have the fantastic opportunity to present their solutions to a valued audience in Dubai, with the winner earning a coveted place in Saïd College Oxford’s bespoke program. Additionally, they will have access to a vibrant community of influential entrepreneurs and thought leaders in innovation and social impact from around the globe.

Notability and Recognition

Developed through a partnership between one of Europe’s leading business schools and one of the Middle East’s premier healthcare providers, the program aims to give young people the visibility and recognition they deserve on the global stage. As the climate crisis intensifies, it is critical to address the challenges that future generations will face in the coming decades.

Soumitra Dutta, Dean of Saïd College, Oxford University, Peter Moores, said: “Climate change is the most pressing threat to humanity and our young people will deal with its impact in ways we do not yet understand. We can stop this crisis only through bold thinking, innovation and creativity.

“That’s why, together with Burjeel Holdings, we are asking today’s teachers and tomorrow’s leaders, changemakers and innovators to imagine solutions immediately. I look forward to giving them a platform during COP28 and personally welcoming the winners to our academy next year , where they will learn more about addressing climate change from our world-leading academics.”

five focus areas

The competition invites students aged 15 to 18 to submit proposals for addressing the climate crisis in five key areas: air pollution, extreme weather events, water scarcity, food security and vector-borne diseases.

High school educators are encouraged to get involved by submitting climate change lesson plans to raise awareness and inspire students to think creatively about solving one of the most pressing issues of our time.

Dr. Shamsheer Vayalil, Founder and Chairman of Burjeel Holdings, emphasized the importance of empowering students to drive meaningful solutions and accelerate climate action, saying: “This initiative unleashes the transformative potential of the nearly one billion high school students and teachers around us. Let The world hears their ideas and lessons learned in addressing intergenerational issues of climate change. This competition is a platform to develop the next generation of change agents, empowering them to drive meaningful solutions and accelerate climate action.

collective responsibility

“By fostering a spirit of collective responsibility, we are fostering a powerful force to shape a more sustainable world for ourselves and future generations. Against the backdrop of a climate-focused year in the UAE, this challenge amplifies the voice, enabling them to play a key role in shaping a brighter, greener future.”

The winning student teams and educators will have the exclusive opportunity to attend a specially curated course at Oxford Saïd College, within the prestigious University of Oxford, in spring 2024. — trade arab news agency
