Abu Dhabi Police has launched a campaign to enhance the safety of pedestrians and drivers and raise awareness about run-over accidents.

The event will run for a month, coinciding with Gulf Traffic Week. It is also part of Abu Dhabi Police’s strategic focus to enhance road safety and spread traffic awareness.

Commenting on the event, Brigadier Mahmoud Yousef Al Balushi, Acting Director of Traffic and Patrol, emphasized that Abu Dhabi Police is keen to conduct on-the-ground campaigns to help pedestrians learn to cross the road safely and obey light signals.

“The campaign aims to urge pedestrians and drivers to abide by traffic laws through promotional messages in Arabic, English and Urdu, as it targets all ethnic groups and all segments of society,” Al Baloushi added.

He further pointed out that the Abu Dhabi Municipalities and Transport Department has worked with the police to enhance pedestrian traffic safety by building bridges on internal and external roads, improving pedestrian crossings, providing light-signal controlled passages, and closing roads. Gaps in road fences to enhance public safety.

He also explained that according to the Federal Ministry of Transport, violations of not giving way to pedestrians at pedestrian crossings will be fined Dh500 and six points, while parking at pedestrian crossings or in a manner that interferes with the movement of pedestrians will be fined A fine of 400 dirhams. law.

He also advised pedestrians to follow directions when crossing the road, as under the law, a fine of Dh400 is imposed for failing to obey pedestrian traffic signals or crossing the road from an undesignated area.
