file a petition lewis hamilton The winners of the 2021 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix have reached the milestone of over 100,000 signatures.
Hamilton was overtaken at the restart on the final lap of the race, a contested defeat Max Verstappencausing him to lose that year’s world champion to his Red Bull rival.
Petition to overturn results of season finale Hamilton declared the winner after race director Michael Massey failed to follow the rules when he arranged for a restart. Massey only allowed the lap car between Verstappen and Hamilton to rejoin the lead, ignoring the other cars a lap behind.
Hamilton’s team, Mercedes, protested the race result but it was dismissed by the FIA.team later opted not to refer the matter to the FIA International Court of Appeal.
However, Patel Gordon-Bennett, who has no relationship with any driver or team involved in that race, believes the result was “unjust” and takes the checkered flag for the 2021 season. A petition was started on Change.org shortly after the drop.
“I started the petition hours after the race on December 12, 2021, the night after the race,” she told RaceFans. “I’m in the living room watching Sky Sports F1 with my family.
“We were shocked and disbelieved when we saw the injustice. I felt it was a scheme to rob Mercedes and Lewis, like they changed the rules to suit Red Bull’s car.”
Mercedes initially struggled to compete with Red Bull in 2021 as off-season rule changes forced the team to redesign the floor. This was done to reduce downforce and relieve pressure on the Pirelli tires following a series of failures last season.

Hamilton’s eagerness to draw attention to causes such as diversity and the environment inspired the petition’s sponsors.
“Lewis has always been a voice for others – the vulnerable, the disenfranchised and the voiceless,” she said. “When Lewis faced injustice, I felt it was time for us to step up and help him.
“Also, it’s disgraceful for the sport to see how a person can change the rules on a whim to get the result they want. If this is going to be F1, I don’t want to be a part of it.”
After an investigation, the FIA concluded that Massi’s actions were “well-intentioned” but that “human error resulted in not all cars being allowed to untangle themselves.” Massi lost F1 race director’s leave over his handling of the race Work.
The report referred to F1 Radio’s radio communications between Massi and Mercedes and Red Bull, including the latter pressuring him to move the lapped car out of the way during the safety car. According to the report, the result of the game is still “valid and final, and cannot be changed at this time.”
Gordon-Bennett, who started the petition about a year and a half ago, has been surprised by how quickly signatures have begun to gather in recent weeks.
“I didn’t expect a lot of signatures, in fact I almost forgot about it,” she said. “When a friend from Ghana texted me a few days ago saying they saw in the Mirror that my name was the one who started this petition and how it got 80,000 signatures, I was absolutely amazed. I Don’t know what the reason for the recent increase in signatures is.”
She added that the petition has yet to elicit a response from anyone in F1. “There’s been no feedback from anyone in motorsport or F1 or Hamilton. From the latter’s point of view, just seeing him has been great.”
