IATA marks 15th anniversary of Aviation Safety Program

[ad_1]

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) says its Safety Audit for Ground Operations (ISAGO), the global standard for Ground Handling Providers (GHSPs), has been advancing aviation safety for the past 15 years.

It is based on IATA’s Ground Operating Manual (IGOM) standard. Since its launch in May 2008, more than 3,000 audits have been conducted worldwide.

“Over the past 15 years, ISAGO has matured and grown into a Center of Excellence for Ground Handling Safety Audits. With 195 organisations, it is now a driving force for improving ramp safety, reducing ground damage and achieving standardized and sustainable operations. Plays a role in mitigating the billions of dollars in aircraft and equipment damage that occurs every year and helps airlines allocate resources efficiently. More and more governments and airports now consider ISAGO as part of their safety oversight programmes,” said IATA Ground Operations Director Monika Mejstrikova said.

ISAGO Registry
Hong Kong Air Cargo Terminals Limited (Hactl) and dnata Dubai are the first ground handling service providers in the world to be accredited by ISAGO and have maintained their ISAGO registration for 15 years. Both companies acknowledge the positive impact of ISAGO in their operations.

“ISAGO plays a vital role in improving the level of aviation safety – notably by standardizing the many different safety standards and recommended practices, and minimizing potential risks to ground handling worldwide. It is a valuable resource and important safety driver,” said Hactl chief executive Wilson Kwong.

The ISAGO Registry now includes 195 GHSPs serving 324 accredited sites at 206 airports around the world. More than 100 ISAGO airline members have instant access to the ISAGO Registry, where they can access nearly 500 different ISAGO audit reports and drive more effective oversight of outsourced ground handling services, including risk, cost and audit reduction.

“ISAGO has been an integral part of our continuous improvement journey and we are proud to have achieved this important milestone. The positive impact ISAGO has had on our operations cannot be overstated and we remain fully committed to maintaining its strict standards,” said Jaffar Dawood, Senior Vice President, Airport Operations, UAE, Middle East and Africa at dnata.

Future-proof ISAGO
ISAGO is constantly evolving to reduce duplicate audits and drive greater standardization of ground handling processes globally. To further streamline the audit process and ensure GHSPs are ready for ISAGO audits, IATA has launched a free operations portal to help GHSPs and airlines perform a gap analysis between their ground operations procedures and IGOM.

This tool helps to identify operational changes in order to reduce them and standardize procedures according to IGOM. In addition, a new checklist is being developed that reflects the requirements of IGOM and the Airport Handling Manual, allowing remote document verification through the Operations Portal.

“We remain committed to growing ISAGO,” Mejstrikova said. trade arab news agency
