Indian company ICOMM, a group company of Megha Engineering & Infrastructures Ltd (MEIL), in its first Defense Article Technology Transfer (ToT), on Tuesday signed an agreement with UAE-based small arms company CARACAL.

Under the agreement, ICOMM will locally produce Abu Dhabi-based CARACAL’s complete range of small arms for the Indian market under the ‘Make in India’ and ‘Atma Nirbhar Bharat’ programmes.

The agreement was signed at the ongoing IDEX 2023 in Abu Dhabi, UAE, one of the world’s largest tri-service defense exhibitions.

ICOMM will produce a full line of CARACAL small arms, including the multipurpose CARACAL EF pistol, the modern CMP 9 submachine gun, the CAR 814, CAR 816 and CAR 817 tactical rifles, the CAR 817 DMR tactical sniper rifle, the CSR 50 anti-materiel sniper rifle, the company’s spokesperson Say, CSR 338 and CSR 308 bolt-action sniper rifles and CSA 338 semi-automatic sniper rifles.

ICOMM chief Sumanth P said the agreement reflects CARACAL’s commitment to help India achieve self-sufficiency in its defense sector. “The Indian government is serious about the indigenization of defense manufacturing by allowing the private sector to manufacture weapons, breaking the stereotype of ensuring uninterrupted supply chains,” said Sumans, who hailed the company’s entry into small arms production as a moment of pride.

CARACAL’s full range of small arms will be produced at ICOMM’s Design, Development and Manufacturing Center Hyderabad.

ICOMM is one of the largest companies manufacturing missiles and subsystems, communications and electronic warfare systems, radar, optoelectronics, composite materials, loitering munitions, bunkers, drones and counter-drone systems.

“This strategically important signing with ICOMM in the Indian market is a key objective of CARACAL. As India continues to realize its sovereign defense ambitions, we look forward to working with ICOMM, which provides )’s end-to-end solution capabilities complement CARACAL’s advanced small arms portfolio,” said Hamad Al Ameri, CEO of CARACAL.
