Ideal Standard, a leading provider of innovative bathroom solutions, has outlined its roadmap to carbon neutrality and reiterated its “Building A better planet” promise.
The report outlines nine key ideal standard commitments in the areas of decarbonisation, circular economy, product innovation, safety and peace, which together will drive impactful change.
The nine goals are closely linked to the sustainable development principles defined by the United Nations Global Compact, which the company joined in 2022 as a sign of its commitment to responsible business conduct.
Together for a Better Future defines clear and accountable targets to monitor and measure manufacturers’ progress, including a goal to reduce Scope 1 and Scope 2 carbon emissions by 30% by 2030 with a view to 2050 Achieving complete carbon neutrality, the company said in a statement.
Ideal Standard has already taken a major step on its sustainability journey by converting its UK ceramics factory to fully renewable electricity in 2021, saving 2,200 tonnes of CO2 emissions per year.
It is also installing more than 3,000 photovoltaic panels at its German accessories factory, which will generate 1.2 million kWh of energy annually, and is switching to 100% FFS/PEFC sustainable certified wood in all of its products.
The company is also embarking on a journey to achieve zero waste to landfill by 2030. Ideal Standard already reuses 100% of its brass and acrylic scrap in its own manufacturing process and is currently working with environmental authorities to develop new technological solutions to improve the recycling rate of ceramic scrap from 70% by 2025 Increase to 100%.
Additionally, it is committed to eliminating all single-use plastic packaging by 2025 and has removed 80 tonnes of virgin plastic from its packaging to date through optimization and transition to sustainable alternatives.
Based on a commitment to sustainability, Ideal Standard recently launched Aesth|ethics, a temporary pop-up showroom in Venice. The campaign highlights Ideal Standard’s design prowess, ethical accomplishments and commitment to sustainability.
The Carbon Neutral pop-up store at Arsenale di Venezia showcased bathroom solutions across product categories and featured a special installation by Chief Design Officer Roberto Palomba. Ideal Standard has also partnered with Up2You to offset the event’s carbon footprint, reinforcing their commitment to a sustainable future.
Ideal Standard noted that transparency has always been at the heart of its sustainability programme, and as such, the company is publishing a “cradle-to-grave” chain of Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) for the more than 5,000 products it supplies, primarily in Europe.
These EPDs will help architects and specifiers understand the environmental impact of Ideal Standard products, how they affect a project’s ecological footprint, and help them achieve their environmental goals, it said.
These complete life cycle assessments will cover products from all product categories, including taps, washbasins, toilets, cisterns, bathtubs, shower trays and more, providing detailed and independently verified information for all bathroom fixtures.
The report also introduced the company’s new EcoLogic concept. EcoLogic focuses on four key values, making it easy for customers to understand the sustainable benefits of the Ideal Standard portfolio and make informed purchasing decisions.
Ahmed Hafez, CEO of Ideal Standard Mena, said of the project: “As one of the leading sanitaryware manufacturers, we recognize the important role we can play in shaping a responsible future for the industry and we are committed to Rise to this challenge.”
“As a company, we’re not going to make any single change to make us fully sustainable. It’s about looking at the whole business and making sure we’re committed to incremental, continuous change in every area to make sure we’re generating real impact,” he added. –trade arab news agency
