Abu Dhabi: A team of senior faculty from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi will visit Abu Dhabi this month to discuss plans to establish the first IIT campus in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

according to Emirates News Agency (WAM), the team’s visit was done on the sidelines of a two-day event at all 23 IITs in India to mark the 75th anniversary of India’s independence.

Dharmendra Pradhan, Minister of Education and Skills Development of India, spoke at the event about the future plans of the IIT. “Technology will drive the next phase of growth and development, with information technology and communications technology leading the way. Our IITs should seize this opportunity,” he said.

On February 18, 2022, India announced the establishment of the first Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in the UAE as part of the trade agreement signed between India and the UAE.

The two sides have been in contact since then to propose measures to implement the proposal. IIT Delhi has a small team stationed on the Abu Dhabi map to implement the proposal.

This will be the first time a personal income tax has been established abroad.

According to media reports, a team from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) was in New Delhi this month to study the model followed by the IIT-D, while also holding talks with teachers and students.

Professor V Kamakoti, director of IIT Madras, told local media that IIT’s overseas expansion has entered a “fast track”, with the hope of opening an Abu Dhabi campus within a year, along with campuses in Malaysia and Tanzania.
