As part of a three-year hosting rights agreement, the Jiu-Jitsu Arena will host the 2023 IMMAF Youth MMA World Championships for the second year in a row, giving young amateur MMA athletes the chance to once again experience the mixed martial arts environment in Abu Dhabi IMMAF joins UAE Jiu-Jitsu and MMA between meetings.
The International Mixed Martial Arts Federation has confirmed that the competition will take place from August 2-5, with the draw for the competition taking place on August 1.
During the four-day competition, athletes will IMMAF Junior MMA Rules 12 to 13 years old (Teen C), 14 to 15 years (Teen B) and 16 to 17 years (Teen A).
Following recommendations from IMMAF’s Medical, Coaching and Regulatory Affairs Committee, the rule set has been modified from the Uniform Rules according to the developmental stage and safety of each age group. IMMAF does not permit head impacts for competitors under the age of 18.
The event, hosted by the UAE Jiu-Jitsu and MMA Federation, will be broadcast live on IMMAF.TV, with highlights on the IMMAF social media channels.
The exclusive program includes live coverage of all races over 4 days, followed by the awards ceremony.
Last August, the 2022 IMMAF Youth MMA World Championships gathered nearly 500 athletes from 42 countries. Ukraine topped the overall medal table, with the UAE and Saudi Arabia claiming their first-ever IMMAF gold medals.
Jack Grundy (England), the son of UFC veteran Mike Grundy, has excelled in the group stage at welterweight. Brodie Mayocchi (Australia) is making the biggest splash at welterweight with three titles in six victories, including over the much-touted Kristiyan Kanev’s armrest.
In the highlight match of the women’s group, bantamweight player Sani Branfors (Finland) defeated four opponents, surrendered three consecutive games, and secured the gold medal in her group.
This year’s competition is expected to increase the number of entries and maintain a high level of standard with 14-17 “orange” grades and 12-13 “yellow” grades as the minimum skill level requirements.
