Independence Day Celebrations in the UAE

[ad_1]

The letter refers to an opinion piece titled “My Father’s Award” published online June 11, 2022 by Mr. Ramon T. Tulfo, which includes information on the alleged decision of the Philippine Embassy in Abu Dhabi, Arab United Emirates Emirates will ban the celebration of Philippine Independence Day in the UAE on June 12, 2022.

The UAE is currently holding a 40-day national mourning following the passing of former UAE President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan on 13 May 2022. As such, an advisory note circulated by Abu Dhabi’s Department of Culture and Tourism (DCT) to relevant agencies in the emirate states: “…all music and entertainment events, including fireworks and celebrations, must be cancelled immediately until further notice. …”

In an expression of respect and sympathy, the Philippine Foreign Office (FSP) in the UAE has recommended the postponement and rescheduling of independence celebrations. The events have been reset to comply with and meet all concerns of all parties involved, including the UAE government.

As part of the wider Philippine bureaucracy, the department remains firmly committed to upholding its mandate and expanding public services in accordance with its purpose and the direction of the government. Career and non-career officers in the department are equally committed to promoting and protecting the interests of the Philippines in the international community.

The Department hoped that the above clarification would address the points raised in Mr. Tulfo’s comments. – Eduardo Martin R. Meñez, Assistant Secretary, Office of Public and Cultural Diplomacy, Ministry of Foreign Affairs
