India beat the United Arab Emirates 5-0 for their second victory and all but clinched their place in the quarter-finals of the Asian Mixed Team Badminton Championships in Dubai on Wednesday. Star players PV Sindhu and HS Prannoy were rested after helping India beat Kazakhstan 5-0 in their opening match on Tuesday. On Wednesday, Aakarshi Kashyap and Lakshya Sen competed in the Women’s Singles and Men’s Singles respectively.
Sen was the first to open the game for India, beating Dev Vishnu comfortably 21-16 21-12 in 31 minutes.
Aakarshi then beat Madhumitha Sundarapandian 21-6 21-7 in just 26 minutes to give India a 2-0 lead.
Men’s doubles duo Drew Kapila and Chirag Shetty beat Dev Ayyappan and Dylan Ayyappan 3-0 21-15 21-14.
The women’s doubles pair of Ashwini Bhatt and Shiha Gautam and the mixed doubles pair of Ishan Bhatnagar and Tanisha Krastor then finished with ease over their respective opponents.
Ashwini and Shikha defeated UAE pair Sanika Dhawan and Akansha Raj 21-7 21-4, while Ishaan and Tanisha defeated Latheesh Bharath and Rajesh Nayonika 21-13 21-8.
India face Malaysia in their final Group B match on Thursday, which will be their toughest yet.
The top two teams in four groups of four will qualify for the quarter-finals.
