This is the first in a series of announcements by India in preparation for its presidency of the G20 on December 1, 2022. India’s rotating presidency will last until November 30 next year.

The G-20 consists of 19 countries and the European Union (EU). Its member countries are: Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Turkey, the United Kingdom and the United States.

“As the presidency of the G20, India will invite Bangladesh, Egypt, Mauritius, the Netherlands, Nigeria, Oman, Singapore, Spain and the UAE as guest countries to the New Delhi summit,” the announcement said.

India will also invite the International Solar Alliance, the Disaster Resilient Infrastructure Alliance and the Asian Development Bank as guest international organizations.

“In addition to G20 members, there is a tradition of the G20 chairperson inviting a number of guest countries and international organisations to his G20 meetings and summits,” said Dr. Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of India. “During its rotating presidency, India is expected to host over 200 G20-related meetings across the country starting from December 2022.”

Combined, the G-20 accounts for 85 percent of global GDP, 75 percent of international trade and two-thirds of the world’s population, making it the “premier forum for international economic cooperation.”
