Consul General of India in Dubai Aman Puri hosted a dinner for the Indian badminton team ahead of the Badminton Asian Mixed Team Championships scheduled to be held in Dubai from 14th to 19th February.
The dinner was held at the residence of the Consul General, and it was a warm welcome and great encouragement to the Indian badminton team who arrived in the city the day before.
A former badminton player, Puri represented India’s Chandigarh badminton team.
“Badminton is a very tough sport. Only those who are skilled, agile and focused get into the national team. The hope of billions of Indians rests on you and I wish each and every one of you the best in this championship Good result. I’m sure the Indian diaspora here is happy to cheer you on,” Puri said.
The event was attended by prominent personalities such as two-time Olympic medalist PV Sindhu, Thomas Cup winner HS Pranoy and Lakshya Sen, among others.
“We really felt at home. Thanks to Dr. Aman Puri for the warm welcome. Thanks to the Indian community for the support and motivation. We are a strong team with the ability to beat the top teams and keep going,” Sindhu said .
The Indian community in the UAE is large, accounting for about 30% of the country’s population. The arrival of the Indian team has sparked a wave of excitement among the Indian diaspora community.
“This is the first time that the Indian badminton team is coming to Dubai to participate in the prestigious Badminton Asian Mixed Team Championships. This is the third Badminton Asian Mixed Team Championships, with India in Group B with Malaysia, UAE and Kazakhstan. Day 1 of the event will see India face Kazakhstan.
