Indian salons told to pay nearly $271,000 for poor haircuts-News

A model once asked the staff to trim 10 cm conservatively, but the hairdresser cut off her entire hair

An Indian salon was ordered to pay more than US$271,000 (approximately AED 995,437) in compensation to a model because she claimed to have caused a “serious mental breakdown” due to her haircut.

According to the judgment of the consumer court in the city, Aashna Roy went to the salon of a top hotel in New Delhi in 2018 and asked the staff to cut her tip by four inches (10 cm).

“However, to the complainant’s complete shock and surprise, the barber cut off her entire hair, leaving only four inches from the top, barely touching her shoulders,” it added.

The court ruled that because Roy had established her career and lent her skills to advertisements for hairdressing products, the poor haircut had caused “severe mental breakdown and trauma.”

“There is no doubt that women are very cautious and careful with their hair,” said the National Consumer Dispute Correction Committee’s ruling.

“They spend a lot of money to keep their hair in good condition. They also develop an emotional attachment to their hair,” it added.

“She lost her expected mission and suffered a huge loss, which completely changed her lifestyle and shattered her dream of becoming a top model.”

The court told Sharon that it could still appeal the verdict and pay 20 million rupees within eight weeks of the order.
