A high-level U.S. government delegation will travel to the United Arab Emirates on January 9-10 for the first meeting of the Negev Forum Working Group, where they will join forces with representatives from Bahrain, Egypt, Israel, Morocco and the United Arab Emirates to advance and encourage regional Initiatives for integration and cooperation.
The U.S. delegation will include Derek Chollet, Counselor at the Department of Foreign Affairs, Liz Allen, Senior Official for Public Diplomacy and Public Affairs, Mallory Stewart, Assistant Secretary for Arms Control, Verification and Compliance, Andrew Plitt, Acting Assistant Administrator, Middle East Bureau, USAID, Cindy McCain, UN Food and Agriculture Agency, Ambassador in Rome, Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary, Bureau for Near Eastern Affairs Yael Lempert, Senior Deputy Assistant to the Administrator and Global Water Coordinator, Bureau for Resilience and Food Security, USAID Maura Barry, Deputy Assistant for the Middle East Dana Stroul, Secretary of Defense for Foreign Affairs, Laura Lochman, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Energy Foreign Affairs, and Dr. Jay Butler, Deputy Director for Infectious Diseases at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Six working groups will focus on priorities identified at the March 2022 Negev Summit: food security and water technology; clean energy; tourism; health; education and coexistence; and regional security. They aim to promote a more integrated and prosperous Middle East and North Africa by working together to achieve tangible results, overcome common challenges, and capitalize on opportunities for all people in the region. This regional cooperation framework also seeks to strengthen the Palestinian economy and improve the quality of life of the Palestinian people.
