For the first time since 2016, Iran has appointed an ambassador to the United Arab Emirates.
The move comes at a time when relations between the Gulf states and Iran are being adjusted.
Iranian state media reported that the newly appointed ambassador, Reza Ameri, had served as the head of the Foreign Ministry’s Office of Iranian Diaspora.
The UAE downgraded ties with Iran after Saudi Arabia severed ties with Iran in January 2016 in response to Iranian protesters storming the Saudi embassy in Tehran following the execution of a prominent Shia cleric in Riyadh.
