Iran should be punished for helping Russia: Ukraine’s Zelensky World News

[ad_1]

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Iran must be punished for what he called “complicity with Russian terror” and accused the Tehran regime of helping prolong the war and exacerbating its impact on food and energy supplies.

“We would be much closer to peace now if Iran hadn’t provided arms to the aggressors,” Zelensky said in his daily address Sunday night. Earlier, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen told Zelensky in a phone call that she would present a financial aid package of up to 18 billion euros ($17.9 billion) this week to help meet Ukraine’s demand for next year.

Kyiv and six other regions in northern and central Ukraine faced additional emergency blackouts on Monday as power shortages worsened following Russia’s attacks on energy infrastructure.

Ukrainian troops have repelled attacks near eight settlements in the eastern Donetsk and Luhansk regions in the past day, the Ukrainian General Staff said on Facebook. The country’s Southern Combat Command said three Russian ammunition depots and a drone control station were destroyed. Russian troops shelled the Nikopol district in the Dnipropetrovsk region overnight, local authorities said in a telegram.

The MoD said in its latest intelligence update that “Russia’s continued lack of air superiority is likely to be exacerbated by insufficient training, loss of experienced aircrew and an increased risk of conducting close air support” and that “this is unlikely to be the case. Probably in the next few months.”
