Iran’s Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian is set to visit Saudi Arabia on Thursday, according to Iran state TV. This follows Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan’s historic visit to Iran in June, marking the first such visit since 2006 and signifying improved diplomatic relations.
The reopening of Iran’s embassy in Riyadh and a recent military meeting in Moscow highlight the progress. Amirabdollahian stated that Iran’s new ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Alireza Enayati, will officially commence his mission during the visit.
Notably, Iran announced the operational status of the Saudi embassy in Tehran, although Riyadh has yet to confirm.
This development stems from a China-brokered agreement in March that ended years of strained relations, benefiting regional stability across the Gulf and areas like Yemen, Syria, and Lebanon.
Saudi Arabia initially severed ties in 2016 due to tensions sparked by an attack on its Tehran embassy following the execution of a prominent Shiite cleric.
