Israeli military chief says “accelerate” Iran’s strike plan, nuclear energy news

[ad_1]

Defense Minister Aviv Kohavi’s comments followed a series of warnings from senior Israeli officials about Tehran’s nuclear program.

The head of the Israeli military warned that the military plan to deal with Iran’s nuclear program has been “significantly accelerated” because of the increasing number of questions about whether a landmark agreement to restrict Tehran’s weapons development can be restored.

Chief of Staff Aviv Kohavi said in an interview published on Monday that he is stepping up preparations for possible actions against Iran, adding that “as recently agreed, a large part of the defense budget is For this purpose”.

“This is a very complex job that requires more intelligence, more operational capabilities, and more weapons and equipment. We are doing all of these things,” Kohavi Tell Walla News.

He also said that the entire Middle East region is working hard to contain Iran’s allies.

The main goal is to “minimize Iran’s presence in the Middle East, with a focus on Syria… But these actions take place throughout the Middle East. They also oppose Hamas and Hezbollah,” Kohavi said.

‘Strengthen regional security’

US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin said in a speech in Qatar on Tuesday that Iran’s military activities in the Middle East continue to increase tensions.

“Iran’s support for terrorism and its willingness to provide increasingly lethal weapons to non-state groups undermines the regional stability we all seek,” Austin said.

“Therefore, we are committed to working together to strengthen regional security and regional defenses and prevent destabilizing actions – including Iran’s nuclear aspirations.”

The dispute with Iran’s 2015 international nuclear agreement is still one of the main reasons for the high tension in the region.

Since April, the other parties to the nuclear agreement — China, Germany, France, the United Kingdom, and Russia — have been trying to get the United States and Iran back into a historic agreement after Washington withdrew in 2018.

Iran has long claimed that its nuclear program is peaceful and pointed out that it has cooperated with the International Atomic Energy Agency on its activities.

“Goal Oriented Negotiations”

Tehran has promised that if the United States returns to the agreement and lifts sanctions that have caused severe damage to the Iranian economy, its withdrawal from the 2015 agreement will be reversed.

Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi said on Saturday that Iran is ready to hold talks with world powers to restore the nuclear agreement-but will not be “pressure” from the West.

“Negotiations are on the agenda… we are seeking goal-oriented negotiations… so the sanctions on the Iranian people are lifted,” Raisy said.

At the same time, Israeli Defense Minister Benny Gantz recently urged the international community to formulate a “Plan B” to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons-he claimed that Tehran is only two months away from acquiring nuclear weapons.

“Iran has the intention of destroying Israel and is working hard to develop the means to do so,” Said Gantz. “Israel is capable of taking action, and will do so without hesitation. I do not rule out the possibility that Israel must take action in the future to prevent Iran from possessing a nuclear.”
