LAS VEGAS, Nevada — The UFC’s comment team said Saturday that Jailton Almeida’s submission to Anton Turkalj at UFC 279 was “too easy.”
The Brazilian advanced 3-0 in the UFC fight in the match, but he disagreed. While he admits that the first round of naked suffocation may seem easy to the untrained eye, what is shown is the result of hours of training.
“We train hard in the gym for that. It’s a process. We work very hard there,” Almeida (17-2) told media including Cageside Press after the fight. “I know people might say ‘yes, it looks easy’ but no, it’s a process. We got all the way back there and we put in a lot of effort during training so we can come here and let it It looks easy in your eyes. But it was a very tough process and we gave our all at the gym.”
After the win, there was some sentiment among fans that Almeida should stay in Las Vegas and compete in this year’s ADCC Fighting Championship. The event takes place in Las Vegas from September 17-18.
“Man, it depends a lot on the coach I have over there,” Almeida replied when the idea surfaced. “If they really want to stay, if they say ‘yes,’ then everyone will stay.”
Earlier this year, Almeida called up former UFC heavyweight champion Andrei Arlovsky. But he now has another fight, which was supposed to happen Saturday.
“I want to fight Shamir [Abdurakhimov]”He’s a top-ranked guy, so that’s the focus right now,” Almeida said. “The point is to go to Abu Dhabi, or, if we can’t go to Abu Dhabi, then to Brazil. why not? “
